Stagecoach tells unions it is closing Dundee depot

Union bosses say Stagecoach has confirmed it plans to close its Dundee depot.

The Courier revealed earlier this month that bosses had drawn up plans to close the depot and transfer operations to Arbroath.

Staff representatives now say they were told the bus firm’s depot at Wester Gourdie Industrial Estate would shut down in phases.

The company has refused to directly confirm the plans but bosses say they are “reviewing the way we manage our operations in Dundee”.

Andrew Jarvis, Stagecoach East Scotland managing director, said: “This process will not result in any significant changes to our services in the city which our passengers can continue to use as normal.

“In addition, we do not expect any significant changes to overall staffing levels.

“As always, we have ongoing dialogue with the trade union about our operations.

“We have made them aware of our position on this matter.”

Doug McGuire, regional officer for Unite, said: “We met with Stagecoach officials on Tuesday and they have advised us that the Dundee Stagecoach depot would be closing in stages.

“From what we know there is no intention of redundancies, but work will be moving to other areas around the east of Scotland.

“We are now in a period of consultation regarding the closure to see if we can find a solution and to ensure that we can look after our members as much as possible.”

Speculation over a possible closure mounted following the company’s decision to withdraw its number 26 service.
