A four-year-old girl has died after the car she was in crashed in Paisley.
The incident happened on Tuesday at around 4.50pm in the town’s Gleniffer Road when a Vauxhall Corsa collided with a BMW 120.
The girl was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but she later died of her injuries.
The Corsa was being driven by a 20-year-old woman who was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries. She is described as being in a stable condition.
A three-year-old boy who was a passenger in the car was taken in for observation but has since been released and a 24-year-old man, the front-seat passenger, was uninjured.
Police Scotland said the 34-year-old man driving the BMW was also uninjured.
The road was closed for six hours as crash investigators conducted an examination of the scene.
Sergeant Kenneth Malaney, from the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Greenock, said: “This was a serious road crash which has resulted in the death of a young girl.
“Road policing officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances which led to this collision.
“The road was moderately busy at the time of the incident and it is likely that the collision was witnessed by a number of passing motorists.
“I would ask that anyone who witnessed the collision to please get in contact with any information you may have.”
