A Scottish charity is looking for willing locals to help save the lives of hundreds of hens atits newest rehoming site.

The British Hen Welfare Trust are hoping to rehome 200 caged hens next week before they’re sent to the slaughterhouse.

The organisation, founded by Jane Howorth MBE, has been saving caged chickens and putting them up for adoption before they are slaughtered since 2005.

Charity’s new rehoming site in Dollar

Over the years, the charity have found new homes for almost 900,000 retired hens.

With 46 pop-up collection points across the UK, the charity are now opening up their latest rehoming site in Dollar.

The rehoming site will open its doors on November 20, with 200 laying hens available to take home.

Jane said: “We are so grateful to our new host and our wonderful volunteers for making this new rehoming site a reality.

“There are 200 ex-commercial hens waiting to pack their bags once we give them the good news that a home has been found for them.

“To do that we need the public’s help.

“These hardworking hens deserve to live the rest of their life as much-loved members of someone’s family so please, if you can, get in touch and offer them a home.”

Anyone looking to adopt a hen are being asked to contact the charity’s rehoming team on 01884 860084.
