Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on the Dryburgh area of Dundee.
Our first image shows members of the Dryburgh Tenants’ Association chatting in the streets in April 1987.
The second picture, from September 25 1985, shows a birthday cake baked by Alan Clark being handed in to the Wright Health Group’s premises in Dryburgh Industrial Estate to celebrate the scanner appeal’s first year of fund-raising. The third picture, from February 17 1960, shows the caretaker in the lift at the Dryburgh multi flats. Doesn’t he look proud!
Our fourth image shows the multi-storey flats at Dryburgh Gardens on May 27 1964.
In the fifth image, from September 6 1995, traffic is diverted through Dryburgh Industrial Estate after a lorry cab caught fire. There were no injuries.
The sixth picture shows sheltered housing being constructed at Dryburgh Farm on May 15 1978.
The seventh image shows the impressive view from the top of the Dryburgh multi-storey flats. It was taken on September 2 1963.
In the eighth picture, from August 1 1982, mechanics from Tayside Commercial Vehicles in Dryburgh Industrial Estate weld the body of a car.
Sheltered housing residents of Dryburgh Gardens exhibited their paintings on February 23 1995 in the ninth image. Councillor John Letford opened the exhibition and is pictured with class tutor Muriel Kinlay and a group of ” art students”.
The 10th picture shows a view from the top of multi-storey flats in Dryburgh on January 1 1960.
Our final image shows the opening ceremony at the main door of a block of multi-storey flats in Dryburgh. It was taken on January 1 1960.
