Fife barber aims to stay a cut above with new Kirkcaldy salon

The shop's owner feels the salon will be able to offer an experience unlike any of its Fife rivals.

A Fife barber who opened his first salon almost five years ago is expanding his business with a new salon in Kirkcaldy.

Har Barber was opened by David Logue in August 2018 as a one-chair barbers in Leslie.

Since then he’s added a further six chairs at the High Street barbers, and says business is booming.

To capitalise on demand, David is opening a second Har Barbers in Kirkcaldy on Monday.

“We’ve got clients coming from all over Fife, but also from further afield and we felt we’d hit a point where we needed to expand,” he said.

Kirkcaldy High Street ‘on its knees’

His new barbers is on St Clair Street, and David explained his decision to stay away from the Lang Toun’s High Street.

“Unfortunately, I feel the High Street is on its knees,” he said.

Though he feels that St Clair Street is “thriving”, David said he was not focused on passing trade when choosing the location of the shop.

He added that although the shop is open for walk-in customers, most of their clients make appointments in advance.

“Social media is our shop window,” he said.

“It’s a far better way of attracting customers. We’ve found people won’t just drop in if they are walking about the town, they tend to see it on social media or ask their pals.

David, who found himself the subject of a £50,000 painting recently, added: “We’ve got our own app.

“People can create their profile, pick their barber and book their own appointments.”

Har Barbers launched its app earlier this year – built by a regular customer who also built the firm’s website.

“We had an app and it was fine, but he’s made it a lot better.

“Convenience is important to people now. They want a couple of clicks to book an appointment and turn up when it’s their turn.

“People don’t want to sit and wait in a busy shop.”

Har Barber in Kirkcaldy to ‘offer something different’

David, 32, said he got the keys to the shop a month ago, and it has been full steam ahead to get the shop open.

It has also created two new jobs in Leslie, with more experienced barbers moving to Kirkcaldy.

And after all the hard work renovating the former nail salon to the tune of £15,000, he’s looking forward to opening the doors.

“I managed to do Leslie on more of a budget, but I feel this has to look right.

“I feel we provide an experience and it’s got to be in a setting that gives that feeling.

“We’re really looking forward to opening.

“I think we provide a service that no other shop in Fife can offer.

“Even the shops that are in Kirkcaldy, I respect them a lot, but I believe we offer something different.”
