Residents of Tayside and Fife have been warned to prepare for flooding after forecasters predicted “torrential” rainfall across Scotland.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) said locals “should be aware and prepared to act” in case the thundery downpour hits the region.
The east coast of Scotland may avoid the worst of today’s weather, which is expected to bring stormy conditions to western and central Scotland.
However the Met Office has enforced two yellow rain warnings across Tayside and Fife, claiming several inches could land in the space of just a few hours on both Friday and Saturday.
And now Sepa has issued flood alerts for the whole of Fife and much of Tayside. Though Perth falls under the warning area, Dundee and most of Angus are not affected.
Both alerts state that, should the area be hit by the torrential rain, it could affect properties, roads and travel.
Sepa added: “Heavy thundery downpours are likely to affect areas across Scotland during Friday and again on Saturday. It is currently not possible to define exactly what areas will be affected and some areas will miss the worst of the heavy showers and
“However where these thunderstorms do occur they are likely to bring torrential rain. People should be aware and prepared to act.

“If these showers coincide with built-up areas there is a risk of surface water flooding to properties and roads, and disruption to infrastructure and travel.
“There is also a risk of flooding to properties and roads from smaller rivers and watercourses if the heavy downpours occur over small urban or fast responding catchments.”
