Man accused of stabbing another man and coughing on a woman in Dundee

Dundee Sheriff Court.
Dundee Sheriff Court.

A man appeared in Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday accused of a car park stabbing and a string of other assaults.

James Robertson, 28, is also alleged to have assaulted a police officer and shouted a homophobic slur at Bell Street Police Station.

Robertson, of no fixed abode, is accused of striking Jason Coull on the head with a knife or similar implement and stabbing him in the stomach in the Campfield Square car park.

Prosecutors say Robertson repeatedly punched Mr Coull on the head and body.

He is also accused of assaulting Gemma Fyffe by pushing her on the body and causing her to fall to the ground and punching Laura Fyffe on the head at the same location.

Robertson is alleged to have assaulted Nancy Fyffe inside the Iceland store on Campfield Square and to have deliberately coughed on her.

A further charge states he Robertson had a black handled lock knife in his possession.

At Bell Street Police Station Robertson is said to have pushed police constable Stuart Osbourne, behaved in a threatening manner and hurled homophobic abuse.

All of the alleged incidents are said to have happened on June 19.

Robertson made a brief appearance on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court on June 22 before Sheriff Lindsay Foulis.

No plea or motion was made on his behalf. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear again in court some time next week.

Police cordoned off an area of the car park in front of the Iceland front door for several hours on Friday afternoon. Police later said a man had been taken to Ninewells Hospital released after treatment later that day.
