A Fife man grabbed his partner around the throat during a drunken attack, a court has heard.
Michael Whorlton, 24, of Barry Road, Kirkcaldy, admitted carrying out the assault when he appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
The offence occurred on December 20 last year at Clay Acres Court, Dunfermline, when he assaulted Nicole Reid, seized her by the head, pushed her to the body, seized her by the neck and then applied pressure.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that the couple had been in a relationship for about four months when the offence was committed.
The incident happened after Whorlton, who had been out drinking, returned home with a friend and struggled to get the key into the door.
Ms Reid had then helped him to get in to the property but later he attacked her “grabbing her by the throat so that she could not breath,” Ms Yousaf told the court.
The other person heard her shout, “Why are you doing this to me?” and the police were then called.
The court was told that Whorlton had very little recollection of the incident because of the amount of alcohol he had consumed and that the relationship between the pair was now over.
Sentencing, Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Whorlton £450 and also ordered him to pay £250 in compensation.
