Angus plumber Philip Forfar could lose business after crashing work van into four parked cars

Angus plumber Philip Forfar, who crashed his work van into four parked cars just yards from watching police officers, may lose his business.

A blue MG and a Renault Scenic were written off after drunk Philip Forfar, 26, collided with them in his Ford Transit van on Church Street, Brechin.

Two other vehicles were damaged in the crash.

The self-employed plumber now fears he will lose his business as a result of the driving ban handed down at Dundee Sheriff Court.

It was revealed how police were in the street dealing with an unrelated matter when they became aware of a car horn sounding and an engine revving.

Depute fiscal Carrie-Anne Mackenzie said: “They saw a white van speed past, quickly followed by a loud crash.

“They ran and saw the van had crashed into a blue MG.

“The accused was stood next to the vehicle, slurring his speech and said to officers that he had been driving.

“The accused refused to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.”

Forfar lost control on narrow Church Street in Brechin. Supplied by Google Maps.

She added: “The blue MG had been struck by the van with such force that it shunted forward several feet, mounted the kerb and collided with a Renault Scenic.

“That vehicle then shunted forward and collided with a silver MG. That vehicle then collided with a grey Volkswagen Golf.”

Mrs Mackenzie said both the blue MG and Renault Scenic had to be written off.

Forfar, of Witchdon Road, Brechin, pled guilty to driving dangerously on April 17 by driving at excessive speeds, failing to keep a proper lookout, causing his vehicle to collide with a parked car and collide with three other vehicles.

He also admitted driving while unfit through drink or drugs and failing to provide two specimens of breath.

Likely to lose business

Solicitor Ross Donnelly said self-employed plumber Forfar was likely to lose his business as a result of his driving ban.

“He had no real reason to be out driving.

“The real factor is that there had been some family stress and that had turned him to alcohol.

“He is more than likely to have to apply for benefits and give up his business.”

Sheriff Kevin Veal disqualified Forfar from driving for 16 months and fined him £700.
