Fife man admits solo sex act in back of moving prison transport van

The 'act' was carried out in the back on a GEOAmey van.

A man is facing jail for pleasuring himself in the back of a prisoner transport van.

Bryan McDowell was being transferred from Perth Police Station to another station in Glasgow, when he removed his penis from his trousers, a court heard.

The van, operated by prisoner escort and custody firm GEOAmey, is divided into a number of single travelling cells.

Stirling Sheriff Court was told as the vehicle went past Dunblane on the A9, the guards “became aware” that McDowell, 28, was performing a solo sex act in his travelling cell.

The guards – one male and one female – told him to stop and warned him they could see what he was doing on the vehicle’s closed circuit TV system, which is used to monitor and record prisoners.

The court heard he took no notice and continued with his illicit actions.

Sentencing later this month

McDowell, of Burntisland, Fife, pled guilty to intentionally causing another to look at a sexual image without consent, by performing the sex act, with his penis naked, in the van near Keir Roundabout, Dunblane.

He did so in the knowledge moving images of his actions were being recorded and monitored by the GEOAmey staff.

The incident happened in November 2019.

McDowell failed to appear for sentence on Wednesday.

His solicitor, Virgil Crawford, said the accused had co-operated with social workers preparing background reports and kept in touch with his lawyers throughout.

Refraining from issuing an arrest warrant, Sheriff William Gilchrist continued the case until October 20 for McDowell’s personal appearance in the dock.
