A drink-driver was found to be almost three times the limit after mounting a kerb in Montrose.

Grzegorz Piechota had travelled to the Angus town following an argument with his girlfriend.

Worried onlookers called the police after he mounted the pavement and was seen staggering across the road to a nearby house.

Piechota, 28, of Park Road, Brechin, admitted driving with excess alcohol (63mics/ 22) at North Esk Road on October 12 2019.

His solicitor told Forfar Sheriff Court Piechota had had additional alcohol once arriving at his friend’s house.

He added he had remained out of trouble since the offence was committed.

He was banned from the roads for a year and fined £300.

Domestic row

Former political hopeful Sanjay Samani, who campaigned to clean up Westminster, has admitted shoving his wife out of his house during a domestically aggravated outburst. The one-time Liberal Democrat candidate was involved in a bitter row over work at the estranged couple’s Alyth home. He pled guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and was fined.

Whisky a go go

Arbroath man Karl Simpson appeared in court to admit stealing £400 of whisky.

Simpson also stole almost £450 of groceries in a separate incident.

At Forfar Sheriff Court the 33-year-old of Priory Crescent was jailed for two months for taking 14 bottles of whisky from Asda in Forfar on September 5.

He further admitted taking groceries and alcohol from Morrisons in Arbroath on the same day.

His solicitor said he had a long record of past convictions and usually sold stolen items to fund a drug addiction.

Bike thief

A man who helped steal more than £16,000 worth of motorbikes from a specialist Fife garage was caught when his liveried hire van was spotted on CCTV. Brian Taylor and a gang targeted Marshall’s Motorcycles in Dunfermline.

Trial arrested

A trial against a Blairgowrie man accused of being at a property with intent to steal has been adjourned, after a key witness was arrested.

John McCulloch, of Emma Street, denies being in the curtilage of Blairgowrie House Cottage without lawful authority on June 4 2020.

Prosecutors claim it would be reasonably inferred that he was there to commit theft.

But the 48-year-old’s trial was postponed following a brief hearing before Sheriff Francis Gill.

Fiscal depute David Currie told the sheriff: “Without saying too much, a Crown witness attended court this morning but was arrested in connection with a separate matter.”

A new trial was set for February 27.

Scientist resentenced

A Perth scientist caught with a haul of obscene child abuse images has had to be sentenced again after his court supervision order was deemed “unworkable”. Police unearthed hundreds of illicit files on biomedical student Connor Sword’s home computer. Social workers said the original punishment was not working and he was fined.
