Three teenagers spotted carrying metal poles outside a Perth takeaway were tooled up for a fight, a court has heard.

Twin brothers Lewis and Cameron McEwing, now 20, and pal Malachi McBride, 19, were seen armed with table legs in the city’s Rannoch Road.

The trio appeared at Perth Sheriff Court and admitted having offensive weapons in a public place on April 2 2021.

Prosecutors accepted not guilty pleas to an alleged assault on the same night.

Lewis McEwing admitted a separate charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner outside his Dunsinane Drive home on April 24.

Spotted in park

Fiscal depute Rebecca Kynaston told the court: “On the Saturday evening, the three accused met up with the intention of fighting unknown parties.

“They had sourced metal table legs from somewhere.”

The McEwing brothers. Lewis (right) pled guilty to a separate charge as well.

She said: “They attended outside a takewaway on Rannoch Road.

“Each of them were seen holding a metal pole.

“They ran off after being asked to leave the area.

“Later, they were seen in a park nearby – again, in possession of the metal poles.”

Ms Kynaston said: “At 10.30pm, all three were cautioned and arrested for being in possession of an offensive weapon.”

The three teens were seen in Rannoch Road, Perth.

Dragged inside by Granny

The court heard that later that month Lewis McEwing was involved in a separate clash with police officers outside the home he shares with brother Cameron.

“At around 4.50am on April 24, police were called to Pomarium Street due to persons being intoxicated and causing a disturbance,” Ms Kynaston said.

“The accused was traced and was considerably intoxicated.”

McEwing was taken home by officers.

“On arrival, he was escorted to the front door by police,” the fiscal depute told the court.

“He continued to shout and swear at them.”

McEwing ranted “f*** the police” and “f***ing piggy b******s.”

Ms Kynaston said: “At this point, he was dragged into the house by his grandmother.

“She apologised for his actions.”

When officers returned to their car, McEwing came back outside and shouted more obscenities at them.

He was arrested.

Solicitor David Holmes, representing Lewis McEwing, said his client had since found employment at a local meat factory.

Solicitor Pauline Cullerton said his brother Cameron was working at the same place.
