Police officer to face trial accused of assaulting and injuring boy, 13, in Dundee

A police officer is to face trial accused of assaulting and injuring a 13-year-old boy on a Dundee footpath.

Darren Moore, 40, is said to have “forcefully pressed his head” against the child’s head, pushed the youngster on the body causing him to fall to the ground, and struck him on the face to his injury.

The incident is said to have taken place on the path at Donald’s Lane, in Dryburgh, Dundee, on March 28 2019.

At Dundee Sheriff Court on Friday,  Moore – whose address was given on court papers as care of the Police Professional Standards Department, Police Scotland, West Bell Street, Dundee – tendered a plea of not guilty by letter to the single charge against him.

He was not present in court in person for the hearing.

Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC set a summary trial date – which will take place before a sheriff sitting alone, without a jury – for April 28 2020, after a pre-trial hearing on April 7, and ordained Moore to appear then.
