Welcome to the very first of our new series of photographs taken from DC Thomson’s archives. Running on Mondays and Wednesdays we aim to bring you a mix of Courier Country’s people and places, instilling nostalgia and cries of “I remember that!”
And if the pictures inspire your own memories, we’d love to hear them – just email craigie@thecourier.co.uk
Today: Gone to the dogs
Puppies on the move
This cute picture of a barrow-load of puppies at the kennels in Kennoway was taken in 1988. Helping Mrs Anderson look after the tiny balls of fur are her grandchildren Donna and Scott.
Havoc by name…
Pet Alsatian ‘Havoc’ certainly lived up to her name when she produced a bumper litter of 12 pups for owners Mr and Mrs Boyes of Newburgh back in 1989. Note that ‘Mum’ is keeping a wary eye on her new arrivals.
Keep away!
This poster, warning the public of the dangers of stray dogs, dates from 1990, when it was in the window of RS McColl. Thankfully, today stray dogs seem to be a thing of the past.
No Alsatians bar one
There seem to be a few pretenders in this 1994 picture entitled “Dundee Alsatian Club” – the one and only German Shepherd looks quite indignant as collies and a lab get in on the act.
