Dundee United striker Simon Murray says players are relaxed about being top

Dundee United striker Simon Murray insists the players are not getting too excited about being joint leaders of the Championship.

Tuesday night’s hard-earned 1-0 victory over Dunfermline at Tannadice moved Ray McKinnon’s men level with Hibs on 27 points at the top of the table.

United are Scotland’s in-form team, having won seven and drawn one of their last eight matches.

Murray, who grabbed the winner against the Pars for his eighth goal of the season, admitted that as nice as it was to be up there, no one is getting too carried away.

“We’re not speaking about it, really,” he said.

“As players, we are more interested in keeping the momentum going and confidence high.

“Listen, it is nice to be up top with Hibs but there are a lot of other strong sides in the league so you have to earn every result.

“We will just keep doing our own thing and try to keep this run going for as long as possible.

“We have been working hard in training and are getting the rewards.”

Dunfermline, who face United again in the Irn-Bru Cup at East End Park on Saturday, must be sick of the sight of Murray.

The former Arbroath striker has found the net each time he has faced the Fifers this season.

Murray said: “It is great to score against any team but I do seem to enjoy playing against Dunfermline because that’s three times I’ve got a goal against them this season.

“It was a tough game on Tuesday and sometimes when the opposition gets a man sent off it’s actually harder to break them down.

“We kept going, though, and I managed to get the goal.

“It was a relief.

“It must have been frustrating for our fans because they wanted us to get into the lead.

“We were just as frustrated when the shots were going over the bar.

“I did hear a little grown from the crowd when I missed one but I persevered and managed to get the fans smiling in the end.”
