Tony Andreu is mobbed by his team-mates after scoring his stunning goal.

Tony Andreu insists Dundee United simply have to continue to focus on themselves and not the fact that title rivals Hibs have now increased their lead at the top of the Championship table to eight points.

The 28-year-old Frenchman opened the scoring for the Tangerines against Dunfermline at East End Park on Saturday with a goal of the highest quality.

John Herron equalised for the home side and although there were several chances to win it, ultimately both sides had to settle for a draw.

As United dropped two points, Hibs were picking up all three with a narrow victory over Queen of the South but Andreu is just looking for his team to try to win as many games as possible and see where it takes them come the end of the season.

When asked if he thought Hibs could be caught, the on-loan Norwich player said: “They are doing well, there is no doubt about that but we cannot think about them, we just have to think about us.

“They are going to pick up points but we just have to be in the right mood and show the character to win these types of games.

“We will see at the end of the season where we are.

“There is no problem about eight points or whatever. We just have to focus on ourselves right now.

“We don’t think about being No.2 – we always wanted to be first so we want to win every game to be as close as we can.

“It has been a hard month or so but I think we are getting back to the point we were two months ago and hopefully we can get some victories soon and keep going in the league.”

United keeper Cammy Bell had to come off at half-time after being involved in a collision at Herron’s goal that left him with double vision and his manager Ray McKinnon said: “Cammy is not good and he will go to hospital as he has taken a really bad one on his head. He couldn’t really see at half-time so we weren’t taking any chances with him.”

Meanwhile, McKinnon is still working tirelessly to add to his squad before the window closes but his quest continues to be a frustrating one.

He said: “We are desperately trying to get something over the line. It’s been held up for a reason. I hope it goes through and we have someone in for Tuesday.

“We are actively trying to get somebody in.”
