McLaren said: “I’m ecstatic. We all pulled together and put in a brilliant performance.

“I knew we could the job and we did it convincingly. I’ve played Premier League football before and it will be good to be back up there challenging again.”

East Fife have given United a run for their money throughout the season but they could only draw at home to Dunfermline, making the gap at the top a four-point one.

In the same league, Raith Rovers won 3-2 at Westdyke Ladies.

This latest title builds on the two trophies United won in the team’s debut season.

They will play in Premier League Two next season, where St Johnstone will be among their opponents.

Saints drew 2-2 with Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The Perth side took the lead through Hannah Clark, recently called up to Scotland under-19s, but then went 2-1 behind.

Clark got the Saints equaliser. They still sit in fourth place ahead of the last game of the season away to champions Motherwell.

Montrose have already been crowned SWFL Division Two North champions after winning a title decider against Stonehaven.

In SWPL 1, Forfar Farmington lost 3-0 at home to Rangers.

In SWFL 2 East, champions Kelty Hearts beat Dundee City 6-1, Dryburgh Athletic beat East Fife Violets 6-0 and Jeanfield Swifts Development lost 4-3 at Lothian FC.
