Dundee University is urging patients who have received quality care by student nurses to nominate them for an award.

The university has introduced a number of new staff and student awards to recognise individuals who go above and beyond their role.

The awards are for both nursing students at undergraduate and postgraduate level and also staff including teaching and professional services employees.

Nominations can be made by other staff members or students, but also by healthcare workers, members of the public, patients, relatives or visitors who have experienced excellent care.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, October 3.

Dr Emma Burnett, Lecturer in Infection Prevention and Control, said: “In light of being voted the 2016 Scottish University of the Year, we created these awards to recognise the fabulous work going on.

“We’ve often had patients saying they’ve had one of our students looking after than and that they have been absolutely wonderful.

“This will be a chance for these students to have their efforts recognise.

“Nominations don’t have to focus on anything massive – it could just be that the student has taken the time to talk and listen to the patient and shown a good attitude.

“We also want to recognise our amazing staff, including those who work ‘behind the scenes’ in professional services such as admin staff.”

A award ceremony will be held at the School of Nursing and Health Sciences on the afternoon of graduation day on November 18, where the Dean will present the prizes to the award winners.
