VIDEO: Multi-million pound Forfar community campus on track and progressing well

Forfar community campus promises to be a jewel in the town's crown.
Forfar community campus promises to be a jewel in the town's crown.

Major progress on Forfar’s £39 million community campus has been captured in an exciting new video update.

As the youngsters who will occupy the new Forfar Academy which is part of the campus start out on their six-week summer holidays, work is continuing apace at the expansive site adjacent to the current secondary.

Local video enthusiast Robert Bruce has been charting the development of the site in a series of You Tube videos, the latest of which is a 14-minute film showing the significant progress made inside and out.

It offers a fascinating birds-eye view of the campus before heading inside the buildings.

Due for completion next year, the new campus will replace the existing Forfar Academy, Lochside leisure centre and Forfar swimming pool, as well as providing enhanced community facilities such as a performance space and accommodation for adult learning and youth activities.

The project got underway in January 2015 and is being led by Hub East Central Scotland in partnership with Angus Council, Robertson Tayside and the Scottish Futures Trust, and is due for completion next year.

Throughout the build, young people have enjoyed the opportunity to see the development at close quarters through initiatives such as the Future Starts programme, run jointly by Robertson Construction and the Prince’s Trust.

Forfar Academy head teacher Melvyn Lynch also enjoyed a unique perspective off the project when he was “rescued” from a 25-metre crane towering above the site in an emergency services training exercise.

Plans have now also been laid for a Forfar Community Campus’ Ethos Group public engagement event on Tuesday August 23 at the town’s Reid Hall.

Walk-in sessions will run from 10am to noon, 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm.

The event has been set up to allow the locals to learn more about the multi-million pound campus project and contribute ideas to the ethos, values and activities at the facility.

The August event will showcase Forfar Academy, Angus Council Communities, Angus Alive, Robertson Construction, the campus design and plans, transport and bus routes.

Work is also underway to install a ‘memory lane’ at the new campus and anyone attending the public event is encouraged to bring along old photographs of Forfar memories.
