Innocent members of the public were spat on, kicked and punched by an irate thug clutching a saw outside Dundee’s V&A museum.
Lindsay Hutcheson targeted a couple with a pram, two pensioners and a woman walking past Dundee Railway Station during the chaotic afternoon rampage last year.
A court heard how Hutcheson chased a terrified woman across four lanes of traffic on Riverside Drive.
Moments earlier, he had spat on a woman after shouting about being “anti-establishment”.
Reports have been ordered after Hutcheson pled guilty to carrying out the assaults and behaving abusively on November 16 last year.
Spat on first victim
Dundee Sheriff Court was told how Hutcheson, 56, has a history of mental health issues and was not receiving medication at the time of the episode.
Just after midday, a woman was walking past the train station when enraged Hutcheson approached her from the direction of the Premier Inn and began shouting at her.
He shouted about being anti-establishment before intentionally leaning forward and spitting at her.
The spit landed on her jacket collar.
Prosecutor Matthew Kerr said: “The accused then walked over the dual carriageway towards the V&A, causing vehicles to stop to avoid colliding with him.
“At this time, a witness standing near to the museum heard the accused shout ‘f*** you’ and ‘f*** this’.
“The accused then noticed the witness and pointed in his direction before purposefully walking towards him.
“Despite the distance, the witness was concerned and started moving backwards.
“The accused approached the witness and said ‘come on then, I’ll fight you, stupid c***’.”
Hutcheson had spittle on his mouth and was told to leave by the witness who felt threatened by him.
Chased bike rider
The lout then chased someone on a bike before pursuing a woman over the four lanes of traffic.
Another member of the public informed the first complainer they had been kicked by Hutcheson.
Mr Kerr added: “The accused then confronted a couple with a pram, causing an earlier witness to move towards them in anticipation of the accused doing something untoward.
“The male was assertive and told the accused to leave.
“The accused then walked off towards the city centre.”
A woman parked in her car outside Mecca Bingo facing the railway station watched as Hutcheson kicked out at a female jogger and tried to punch an elderly couple.
Police found accused with saw
Police arrived and found Hutcheson on the Nethergate.
He was found in possession of a saw but did not brandish it at any time over the course of the incident, the court heard.
In response to being cautioned and charged, Hutcheson said: “I only kicked a guy in the backside.”
However, Hutcheson, of the Seagate Project, Sugarhouse Wynd, pled guilty to spitting on a woman’s body on Riverside Drive before assaulting members of the public by repeatedly kicking and punching them on the body.
He also admitted repeatedly shouting, swearing, making offensive remarks, walking across four lanes of traffic causing vehicles to take evasive action, acting aggressively, threatening violence, chasing members of the public and possessing a saw.
Sheriff Gregor Murray deferred sentence until January for social work reports to be prepared.
His bail order was allowed to continue.
