A heartless thief who preyed on elderly, vulnerable women has admitted attacking a police officer at Perth Sheriff Court.

Elizabeth Reid kicked the constable during a fracas at the Tay Street courthouse on Hogmanay.

Other officers were called to the scene following the lunchtime incident.

Reid, 44, appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to a charge of assault.

She also admitted stealing alcohol and washing detergent from the city’s Edinburgh Road Tesco supermarket the day before.

Sheriff George Way called for reports and referred the case back to Perth Sheriff Court.

Reid, of Glenshee Crescent, Perth, will be sentenced on February 16.

Thief branded ‘despicable’

Reid was jailed in 2020 after she was caught stealing from several frail, elderly victims – including her own mother.

She duped her mum into handing over bank cards and Pins so she could steal nearly £2,000 from her.

The court heard she also stole £600 from a 92-year-old Kinross woman and a further £120 from an 87-year-old.

And she later targeted a 76-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s.

Reid stole to feed her secret drug habit, the court was told at the time.

Her heartless crimes were branded “despicable” by Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney.
