Violent young thug joined drug dealer in attacking friend during Fife house party

Ross Kelman was jailed at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.
Ross Kelman was jailed at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

A Fife man bottled his friend in his own home after inviting a drug dealer to a house party.

Ross Kelman joined a concerted attack which culminated in him bottling the resident, who owed a debt to the dealer.

21-year-old Kelman appeared by video link at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to admit five charges of violence.

He had earlier assaulted his then-girlfriend, breaking her arm by hitting it with a laptop computer.

Lochgelly party

Kelman had met with a friend in Lochgelly on January 7 and asked if he could bring some people to his home.

The HMP Perth inmate arrived at the property in South Street and began drinking and inviting more people over.

One of the attendees was a drug dealer to whom the resident owed debts.

A confrontation broke out and Kelman took the side of the dealer.

Fiscal depute Claire Bremner said: “The accused repeatedly punched the complainer to the head.

“The accused and others swung punches at the complainer.”

The resident fell to the floor but Kelman’s rain of punches did not dry up, the court heard.

Ms Bremner said: “The complainer managed to get back to his feet.”

Once he was back on his feet, he was clubbed over the head with a number of glass bottles.

Bloody handprints on wall

At 11.20pm, neighbours who saw and heard the incident spill on to the street phoned police.

Officers arrived at the property and found the victim had a “significant” amount of blood on his head, face and body and saw bloody handprints on the walls, along with broken glass on the floor.

The complainer was taken to hospital and received 17 stitches.

Within an hour, Kelman was traced.

“He was seen to have blood stained clothing,” Ms Bremner said, noting Kelman had blood on his hands as well.

He was taken to Dunfermline police station, where he spat on two officers.

Kelman admitted assaulting the man to his severe injury, while acting with others.

He pled guilty to repeatedly punching him on the head and striking him on the head with glass bottles, as well as assaulting the two police officers.

Domestic offending

Kelman also admitted to carrying out two previous attacks on his then-girlfriend.

On October 19, he fractured her arm in two places when he struck the woman with a laptop at their home in Leven’s Aithernie Court.

He admitted raining punches on the woman on December 16.

She was left injured after he repeatedly punched her head.

The court heard Kelman ended the relationship the next day and the woman’s family contacted police.

He admitted both assaults on the woman, severely injuring her with the laptop and injuring her on the second occasion.

Sheriff James Williamson deferred sentencing until April 8 for reports.
