A paedophile from North Queensferry was caught hoarding child abuse files gathered while “exploring his sexuality”.

David Bonas appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court to admit possessing the vile files for more than four years.

Police were granted a search warrant to raid Bonas’ home in the village’s East Bay on August 17 2021.

They arrived at 6.50am the following morning and conducted a systematic search of the premises.

Officers seized a Samsung mobile phone which Bonas “readily admitted” was his.

On the phone, police found two Category A videos which could be viewed and 12 of the foulest category of images, which could not be accessed.

They also uncovered two accessible videos and four still images, as well as 12 inaccessible still images all rated as Category B.

A further two Category C videos were found, and 14 Category C images, six of which were accessible.

Creation dates for the files reached all the way back to May 31 in 2017.

An Acer laptop belonging to Bonas was also analysed but it showed no signs of harbouring filth.

Already seeking help

Solicitor Alan Davie said: “Mr Bonas is a 59-year-old man.

“He has effectively lived a heterosexual relationship where he is homosexual.”

Mr Davie said that Bonas had been “exploring his sexuality.”

“He has, over the course, come onto images,” Mr Davie added.

“This matter came to a head on August 17.

“That has had an impact on him already.

“He has already sought some help and engaged with Stop It Now.

“In terms of accessing support, it is something he is doing already.”

Stop It Now is a charity which through a hotline provides support people with problematic sexual thoughts and those who may be at risk of sexual offending.

Sheriff Robert More decided against sentencing first offender Bonas on the spot and ordered reports.

Bonas was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will return to be sentenced on March 8.
