Councillor worried about “damaging” bus route changes

Mr Macpherson has asked for assistance with promoting the West End's "unique" shopping area.

Changes to Dundee bus routes could be “damaging” for residents in the West End, it has been claimed.

Councillor Fraser Macpherson is concerned the redirection of Xplore Dundee bus routes on Perth Road and Glamis Road could leave residents without appropriate coverage.

The Number Five service has been altered “slightly”, according to Xplore Dundee, with a rerouting via Dickson Avenue and Glamis Road.

Councillor Macpherson said: “I am very concerned by the proposal that key service Number Five is proposed to miss out a large part of Perth Road, west of Glamis Road.

“This will mean nothing apart from the Number Nine service going west of Glamis Road on Perth Road and, taking account of proposed Stagecoach changes as well, nothing at all running west of Tom McDonald Avenue on Perth Road.

“This is a large area of residential housing being affected adversely and I have received concerns from many residents about it”.

A spokeswoman for Xplore Dundee said: “The route of Service Five is to be amended slightly from Sunday August 14, rerouting the journey via Dickson Avenue and Glamis Road in both directions.

“Residents of the west end of the Perth Road will continue to be served by the Outer Circle, which operates every half an hour from early morning and throughout the evening.

“Service Five has also been re-timed to accommodate class timings for the newly reopened Harris Academy.

“Full details of service changes and new timetables will be available from our Travel Shop and online early next month.”

Stagecoach, the city’s other bus provider, also announced changes to routes which will also affect the West End.

The full list of revisions is available at stagecoach.com,
but notable changes
include amendments to
Strathtay’s 16/A/B/X services from Dundee to Perth via
Invergowrie and Errol.

The revised route will include buses running from Dundee bus
station via Perth Road, Ninewells, Invergowrie, Longforgan, Inchture, Errol, St Madoes and Perth city centre before terminating at Perth Royal Infirmary.

Other routes affected include the 39 and 39A between
Gauldry and Arbroath, which will be extended to Balmerino on some buses.
