A man has been charged after a former Dundee FC youth player was found bleeding from the head in Hawkhill in the early hours of Sunday morning.
John Black, 20, from Blairgowrie was taken to Ninewells Hospital following the incident and remains in a critical condition.
The midfielder left the club in 2016.
A post on Facebook page Dundee FC News said: “I’m sure all the Dundee fans send their thoughts and prayers to former Dundee youngster John Black, who is on a life support machine.
“Fans across the world are thinking of you buddy.”
John’s mother June replied: “Thank you so much for kind thoughts.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with a serious assault which happened in the early hours of Sunday 8 October at Old Hawkhill, Dundee.
“A report was sent to the procurator fiscal and the man appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday (Monday 9 October).
“A 20-year-old man remains in a serious condition in hospital and enquiries are continuing.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service has said they were called to Old Hawkhill Road around 2.32am on Sunday.
They said an unconscious man was taken to Ninewells Hospital after he was found bleeding from the head.
