Warrant issued for man who used Dundee library’s wi-fi to download child abuse images

Dundee Sheriff Court.
Dundee Sheriff Court.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a violent pervert who piggybacked onto a Dundee library’s Wi-Fi to download thousands of horrific child abuse images.

William Cox, 59, was to have appeared for sentencing at the city’s sheriff court but failed to appear.

Police officers will now be instructed to take him into custody to appear at the court at a later date.

The jobless criminal – who has previous convictions for burglary, theft and assault – used the Wi-Fi to download 10,000 images and videos over just two months last year.

Of those more than 2,000 were at the most serious level.

They included horrific images of babies being tortured.

His home in Craigowan Road was raided by police officers in June, 2015, after a tip-off.

Cox told officers that he didn’t have his own internet connection but had gotten around that fact by using the nearby Charleston Library’s signal.

At a previous court appearance he pled guilty to downloading and possessing indecent images of male and female children aged between a few months and 15-years-old.

Cox was released on bail at that time and ordered to return to court for sentencing.

He has been placed on the sex offenders register.
