The Tay Road Bridge was completely closed as police dealt with an on-going incident on Thursday evening during rush hour.
Officers were called to the crossing at about 5pm with motorists told to “avoid the area”.
Police initially said only the northbound section was closed, however Tay Road Bridge management later confirmed that the whole structure was completely closed off to drivers.
Huge queues formed at the Dundee side of the crossing with reports of traffic tailed back past the Gallagher Retail Park on East Dock Street.
The bridge was reopened at about 5.40pm.

An earlier statement from the force read: “Police Scotland can confirm they are dealing with (an) ongoing incident.
“The northbound carriageway of the bridge is closed. The public are asked to avoid the area at this time.”
The force updated later to say: “Police Scotland are pleased to advise that both carriageways of the Tay Road Bridge are now open.”
