A brothel madam who ran a sex den from a Fife flat has refused to reach a settlement with prosecutors aiming to seize her takings.
Chin Chih Chang, 54, was convicted of keeping or managing a brothel in a luxury waterfront apartment in Kirkcaldy following a trial at the town’s sheriff court in May, last year.
She is accused or transferring or removing criminal property from Scotland and the Crown is attempting to claw back some of her ill-gotten gain through proceeds of crime legislation.
A sheriff expressed disappointment that negotiations had failed to reach a resolution before her case called at the same court on Wednesday.
A confiscation proof – a hearing to decide what Chang must pay – was deferred on Tuesday and again on Wednesday due to the procurator fiscal depute being ill.
It will now take place in March 25 and 27, next year.
Sheriff Grant McCulloch said it was unfortunate the case had been delayed.
He said: “It’s also unfortunate that the discussions have not led to a resolution on the issue, withstanding the clear convictions that are in place and the various assumptions that the court has required to take in terms of legislation regarding funds in the accused’s possession.”
Chang sold sex for between £80 and £110 at time through adverts placed on the Gumtree website, between April 2016 and May 2017.
Clients would receive home visits or go to the flat in Lord Gambier Wharf.
One customer told how he received a “Brucie bonus” following a back rub while another spoke of being offered the “girlfriend service” or a “naked massage”.
Chang travelled from her home in Hove, Sussex, for this week’s proof.
She had also attended a series of pre-proof hearings as prosecutors and her defence team examined documents and bank statements, many of which have had to be translated from Mandarin.
Following her conviction she avoided a jail sentence and was instead ordered to undertake 300 hours of unpaid work and placed on a restriction of liberty, or tagging, order for a year.
