Coronavirus cases have been confirmed at more Fife schools as measures to control the virus are set to be ramped up in the region.

Coinciding with the First Minister’s announcement that the region is to enter tier 3 Covid-19 restrictions, NHS Fife confirmed positive cases at five more schools.

Earlier this week, new coronavirus cases were recorded at 11 schools in the kingdom.

On Tuesday, one individual with links to Balcurvie Primary School in Windygates tested positive for Covid-19. However, the health board said they were not in school while infectious.

There was also one case at Methillhill Primary and one case at the nursery associated with Dysart Primary, with some contacts within the school asked to self isolate.

Another case has been linked to Pathhead Primary in Kirkcaldy, bringing the school’s total number of cases since the start of term to two.

And there have now been three positive cases linked to Torryburn Primary after an additional case was reported on Tuesday.

Glenrothes High and Woodmill High in Dunfermline have each been linked to one individual testing positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, six cases have now been recorded at Auchmuty High in Glenrothes – four more than before.

And two additional cases were confirmed at Balwearie High in Kirkcaldy, bringing the cumulative total to seven.

One additional case has been recorded at Levenmouth Academy in Buckhaven, bringing the total to two.

A spokesperson for NHS Fife said: “Where there is more than one confirmed case, this does not necessarily suggest transmission within the school and may relate to a sibling or household group, or it may be separate incidences of community-acquired infection.”
