A serial drink driver overtook a motorist in a 40mph limit before slamming his vehicle into a telegraph pole.
Iain McKenzie was found to be nearly twice the legal drink drive limit when his car left the road between Bridge of Earn and Gateside in Fife.
Depute fiscal Mairi Graham told Perth Sheriff Court: “At 11.05pm a witness saw the accused’s vehicle when it overtook her in a 40mph limit. A short while later she saw the vehicle had collided with a telegraph pole and assisted the driver. She also called the police.”
Police attended and McKenzie failed a roadside breath test and was taken to the police station.
The court heard McKenzie had previously been subject to four community payback orders dating back to 2014 for similar offences.
Solicitor David Holmes said McKenzie was “willing to take psychological assistance as required”.
He described him as “very much a family man” and the father of four children.
McKenzie, 48, of Brandywell Road, Abernethy, admitted having 41 mcg of alcohol in his breath on August 26. The legal limit is 22.
He also admitted driving without due care or consideration for other road users by failing to keep control of the vehicle and having no MOT. All the offences took place on the A912 near Pottiemill Cottage.
Sheriff Gillian Wade told McKenzie: “I am deeply concerned by your actions. The community payback orders have not made any difference.”
She jailed him for four months and imposed a four-year driving ban.
