A Perth breast cancer survivor is to hold another fundraiser in aid of charity, despite saying she would take a break to rest.
Martine Sinclair, 53, will hold a charity lunch at Deans Restaurant on October 12 in aid of Marie Curie.
Martine said: “The Deans family have just been fantastic in supporting this event.
“And after promoting it in their restaurant, on their social media and to their regular customers, it was a sell out in less than two days.”
She added: “I am absolutely overwhelmed by the support. It’s local people supporting local causes.”
Martine was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year after doctors found a tumour in her right breast.
She has since been given the all clear, and has this week gone back to work after 15 months.
The charity event will include a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses including DG Lindsay, Cairn O’Mohr and Charlie Taylor Hair Salon.
In addition, a signed Scotland Rugby Jersey, from the team competing in Japan at the World Cup, is also up for grabs.
Martine described the breast cancer team at Perth Royal Infirmary as “incredible”, and paid tribute to her daughter, Victoria and husband, Kevin for having been so supportive.
Despite her cancer battle, Martine continued to help others through her fundraising.
In March, she worked with Perth Railway Amateur Boxing Club on a boxing event, which aimed to “knock out cancer”.
Former world lightweight champion Ken Buchanan attended as the guest of honour.
She had also set up fundraising and Facebook pages named Not Norm in a B Cup, which she had jokingly named the tumour found in her breast.
Martine has received support from other fundraisers. Pauline Smith, an artist who painted the Marie Curie daffodil to raise money for the charity, spoke of the importance of its work.
She said: “With both my mother and father having had cancer, we experienced first-hand just how invaluable their help, advice, compassion and understanding is to both the patient and their families.
“I wish Martine every success with her fundraiser at Deans. She is a lovely lady and continuously works at fundraising.”
Martine has a hugely positive outlook on life, despite the health difficulties she has faced.
She said: “If you’re life is a story, be the hero.
“I am going to be the hero of my own story and I am going to fight breast cancer.”
