Some 108 people are now in intensive care after contracting the disease.

There were 107 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Tayside on Sunday and 58 in Fife.

Announcing the latest figures at a press conference in Edinburgh earlier today, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “I can confirm as of 9am this morning 1563 cases have been confirmed, which is an increase of 179 from yesterday.

“As always we are very clear that this will be an underestimate.

“It is with sadness that I can report a further six deaths of patients who tested positive for covid-19.”
