Each week, we will take you on a trip back in time with a selection of photographs picked from DC Thomson’s vast archives. This week, the focus is on Montrose.
Our first image shows the town’s new £80,000 lifeboat the Lady Macrobert tying up at the docks for the first time. Five jolly-looking crew members are stood aboard. The picture was taken on April 12 1972.
The second photo dates from April 11 1892 and shows a group of men standing beside the Joseph Hume Statue in the town’s High Street.
In the third picture, the Montrose lifeboat, Edward & Isabella, returns to her station after towing the naval launch into the town’s harbour. The picture was taken on September 1 1964.
The fourth picture, from 12 September 1990, shows Montrose Academy pupils at a tennis coaching session, with balls being fired from an automatic serving machine.
Staff and owners of JC Cameron Confectioners are shown moving into their new premises in the fifth photo. The date of the picture is unknown but it’s thought to have been taken around 1900.
The sixth photo dates from July 29 1977 and shows members of the 45th Company of Dundee Boys’ Brigade fixing guy ropes on their tent at Balwyllo Farm, Bridge of Dun, during an annual camping event.
The final, rather special, photo shows a horse-drawn water carriage being filled up in the town. It was taken on April 11 1892.
