Forfar may be down and out of League One, but they’ll be determined to take Brechin with them, according to Glebe Park boss Darren Dods.
It has been an incredible achievement by Dods and his Glebe Park side to escape automatic relegation with a game to spare.
But he doesn’t want his players to start thinking their job is done because the player/manager expects to come up against a highly motivated Forfar team in today’s Angus derby at Station Park.
He said: “Their incentive will be to take Brechin down with them.
“If we were in their position that would be what we’d be saying.”
Dods added: “A couple of months ago we were detached from the rest of the league and the best we could have hoped for was getting within two points of Forfar to give ourselves a chance of getting into the play-offs.
“To have our safety in our own hands is even better. I would definitely have taken this scenario.
“We have to beat Forfar because we can’t take other results for granted.
“There have been plenty of times when they have gone against us when we’ve not expected it, such as Cowdenbeath winning at Peterhead. So we have to expect them to beat Stranraer.”
Jas Sukar and David Weatherston are still out but Lewis Spence should be available.
Meanwhile, Gary Bollan has not allowed his players to wallow in self-pity this week.
The Forfar boss said: “Training was very quiet at the beginning of the week which was not unexpected however you cannot allow that to fester. It was more upbeat when we got the boys back together for our second session.
“We have a game to play this weekend and we want to end the season on a winning note. The preparations for next season start now. If we can get a win everyone will feel a bit better heading into the summer.
“Brechin have done tremendously well recently and have a great incentive to win but there is pressure on them and there is no pressure on us other than to play well.”
Thomas O’Brien and Kerr Hay are suspended, with Michael Travis and Michael injured.
