East Fife need to turn chances into goals

After drawing a blank for two games in a row East Fife manager Darren Young is looking for his side to turn chances into goals starting against Forfar tomorrow.

A credible draw at St Johnstone last weekend was followed by a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Montrose in midweek and Young, who is keen to add to the fire-power in his ranks, does not want to start the season with three barren matches.

The Bayview boss said: “Goals are what has been missing from our game. We defended really well at St Johnstone and created a few chances but could not get the ball over the line.

“Our game at Links Park saw us have a period in control and then a scrappy time of things where they managed to score. We were strong in the last 15 minutes but could not get an equaliser and that shows the fine margins we are coming on the wrong side of just now.”

Young added: “Anton Dowds is shaping up well when you consider the step up he has made from playing for Heriot Watt University however he needs the confidence a goal would bring. He had a couple of chances at Montrose but was off target, as were a couple of other players.

“Forfar will be feeling just as frustrated as they had 20 shots on goal at Falkirk on Tuesday but lost 2-0. They are obviously doing something right to create so many opportunities so we need to stifle their creativity.”

Summer signing Scott Agnew has returned from his honeymoon and is added to Young’s pool that is still missing the injured Ryan Goodfellow, Mark Docherty and Scott Linton.
