Gomis set to take over as Dundee United target hat-trick of wins down at Queen of the South

Veteran Morgaro Gomis is set to take over in midfield when Dundee United try to make it three wins on the bounce as they head for Queen of the South today.

The 33-year-old is expected to replace Calum Butcher, who will serve the first game of a two-match ban after his red card in the Scottish Cup win at St Mirren last weekend.

His second game on the sidelines will be the cup quarter-final against Ross County or Inverness Caley Thistle which has been confirmed for Sunday, March 3 at 3pm.

The game is also being televised live on BBC Scotland.

As well as continuing their recent winning run, the Tangerines will be looking for their third success of the campaign over Queens.

To do that, though, manager Robbie Neilson is well aware they will have to keep in-form home striker Stephen Dobbie quiet.

His spectacular strike in the cup at Aberdeen on Sunday was the 36-year-old’s 38th goal in just 32 appearances this term.

“He has been on fire lately and someone we will have to get to grips with,” said Robbie.

“He has a lot of quality, he knows how to score goals.

“He’s just a very good player and I think he has the freedom of Dumfries these days. He’s a god down there.”

United have their own in-form attacker in the shape of Pavol Safranko.

The Slovakian, who’s on loan from Aalborg, has hit the net three times in his last four games.

That’s taken his tally so far to 11 goals and he’s scored on the two previous occasions he’s faced the Doonhamers.

“We been playing well and we’re looking for that to continue,” added Robbie.
