Dundee United could be facing a potentially season-defining Highland triple header after the Scottish Cup quarter-final draw paired them with Ross County or Inverness Caley Thistle.
It means if Caley Thistle go through, they are likely to visit Tannadice twice in four days at the end of the next month.
John Robertson’s team, who were pegged back by an injury-time equaliser in Dingwall last night, are due to head to Tayside on league duty two weeks tonight.
The exact timing of the last eight ties will be confirmed once the TV companies have made their live game selection. Right now, however, the United against County or ICT clash is pencilled in for 3pm the following Saturday.
With a potential Aberdeen against Rangers tie, if the Ibrox men win their replay against Kilmarnock next week, on the cards and Hibs already confirmed as hosting Celtic, it’s likely they will be shown live on the box, leaving the United tie unchanged.
And if Ross County come out on top next week, there’s a chance they could be back at Tannadice the midweek after their Scottish Cup visit.
That’s because the pair were already listed to meet in a massive Championship game that day.
It’s been postponed but with Tangerines boss Robbie Neilson already expressing a preference for such games to be played as quickly as possible, the following Tuesday night is a possible date.
That would see three games in a week against Highland opposition.
The draw means there will be at least one team from the Championship in this season’s semi-finals and Partick Thistle could also reach that stage by beating Hearts.
