Dundee United boss Robbie Neilson’s hunt for fresh talent to bolster his squad shows no sign of easing.
Having already fixed up attackers Aidan Nesbitt and Cammy Smith, Robbie is now focusing on other areas of his team.
That’s seen a so far unsuccessful attempt to land Ayr United full-back Liam Smith.
The Honest Men have confirmed they’ve knocked back a five-figure bid.
The 22-year-old right-back has been a regular for Ayr this season and they are not keen to lose him to one of their big promotion rivals in the Championship.
He is, though, a player who is known to the Tannadice gaffer from their time together at Hearts.
And that could see an improved offer tabled over the next few days.
Meanwhile, former United favourite Morgaro Gomis continues to train with the club. He could sign up on what is likely to be a short-term contract in time to be included in the squad for tomorrow’s clash with Dunfermline.
If the deal is done, it will be a third spell in tangerine for the 33-year-old French-born former Senegal international.
He first arrived when then-boss Craig Levein snapped him up from Cowdenbeath in 2007 and went on to be part of the 2010 Scottish Cup-winning team.
Gomis moved to Birmingham City in 2011 but returned for a brief spell with United during the 2013/14 campaign.
Since then he’s had spells with Hearts, when Robbie was head coach, and at Motherwell on loan.
Most recently he’s been playing his football in Malaysia but returned to Dundee, his adopted home city, shortly before Christmas.
