Dundee United central defender Frederic Frans is to see a specialist after injuring his groin during the draw at Falkirk.

The Belgian had to be carried off after just 24 minutes and be replaced by Rachid Bouhenna, who also went off after damaging his nose.

Tannadice assistant boss Gordon Forrest confirmed that Frans will be out for a while, although Bouhenna has a chance of making the squad for tonight’s home game against Inverness Caley Thistle.

He said: “Freddy has that groin issue that we will continue to review and we will see how long he will be out for.”

Asked if he is to see a specialist, Forrest replied: “Yes, but in terms of finer detail and the number of day or weeks it’s hard for me to say just now.

“Rachid got a nasty bump on the nose but Freddy is probably looking at a longer time out.

“He had, not a bad one, but quite a tough groin issue.

“As for Rachid, he got that cut on the nose and there was a lot of blood.

“You’ve got to be careful with that. Hopefully, he can be patched up and be in the mix as soon as possible.”

Forrest is adamant that United’s players will not let thoughts of the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Inverness on Sunday get into the players’ heads ahead of tonight’s league clash against the same opponents.

The assistant boss added: “I think from our point of view we forget about Sunday.

“It will be a great occasion for the club and it’s one we want to progress from, but the players know it and we know it – we’re not even concentrating on that just now.

“The league game is a massive game for us and we’ve been dealing with that in terms of our training.

“We will play this game and then we will think about the cup game on Wednesday morning.”
