Drivers on one of Tayside’s busiest roads will face severe disruption this weekend while resurfacing works are carried out.
A section of the westbound carriageway on the Kingsway, between the Clepington and Liff junctions, will close from 7.30pm on Friday until 6.30am the following Monday.
More than 16,300 individual cars travel along the affected section of the Kingsway each day and Transport Scotland, which is carrying out the work, estimates the cost at just under £500,000.
Road contractors will work round the clock to complete the project, which will also see the slip roads from Liff and Coupar Angus junctions – near the Dundee Ice Arena – closed during this time period.
A contraflow – which diverts traffic from a dual carriageway on to a single side – will be in effect on the eastbound passageway between the Clepington Junction and the Asda at the Myrekirk roundabout.
Temporary traffic lights will be put in place on Thursday evening ahead of the westbound closure, to allow for the contraflow to be set up.
A series of sign-posted diversions will be established to guide drivers who normally use the slip roads at Liff and Coupar Angus junctions to their destination.
Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s North East Unit Representative, said: “This £495,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90 Kingsway, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.
“We have taken steps to minimise disruption for motorists as much as possible during the improvements, including carrying out the works under a contraflow traffic management system to keep traffic constantly moving past the works, and scheduling the improvements to take place in one weekend to minimise the overall impact to motorists.
“We encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”

Transport Scotland promised all materials removed from the carriageway following the works will be recycled in accordance with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency’s guidelines.
