A person has been killed after being hit by a train on the line between Dundee and Aberdeen.
Rail services between the two cities were cancelled, and others across Scotland disrupted, following the incident just south of Aberdeen at about 3.50pm.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to the line close to Aberdeen station at 3.50pm yesterday following a concern for welfare.
“Paramedics also attended however it emerged that sadly, a person had been struck by a train and died.
“This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Rail services resumed from Aberdeen on Wednesday evening, with the first train leaving the city station shortly after 6.30pm.
The incident took place as the train travelled through the Nigg area of Aberdeen.
A North East Police Division statement issued on Wednesday night read: “Police Scotland officers are currently dealing with an ongoing incident on the railway line adjacent to St Fitticks Road Aberdeen. At this time there is no further information available.
“Until further notice vehicular and pedestrian traffic are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route.”
ScotRail said: “Due to a person being hit by a train between Aberdeen and Montrose disruption is expected until 8pm.
“Train services between Aberdeen and Montrose will be suspended.
“We are working closely with the emergency services. Check back here for further updates.”
