Driving bans are likely to be introduced around five more Dundee primary schools.
Part-time traffic restrictions are proposed for areas around Clepington, Eastern, Mill of Mains, St Ninian’s and St Pius primary schools.
Dundee City Council’s development committee will be asked on Monday to approve a traffic regulation order restricting vehicle access in streets around the schools.
At what times will traffic be banned?
In streets where the scheme – known as Safer Streets – is proposed, driving will be prohibited from Monday to Friday on school days from 8.30am to 9.15am and 3pm to 3.30pm.
Which streets will be affected?

Where are traffic bans already in place?
Traffic bans are already in place at: Forthill Primary; St Mary’s Primary; Fintry Primary; Downfield Primary; St Andrew’s RC Primary and Craigiebarns Primary.
North East Campus and Coldside Campus are due to come on stream later this financial year.
These further five locations will mean more than a dozen places will be covered by March 2024.
‘Better road safety’
Mark Flynn, development committee convener, said: “Bringing in the Safer Streets measures at Forthill, St Mary’s and Fintry [primary schools] has reduced car journeys.
“They have increased the number of children choosing more active ways of getting to and from school.
“The benefits for the wider community are clear with better air quality, less congestion and better road safety.”
Consultation
Head teachers and parent councils at the five schools have been told about the proposals.
Further discussions with the school and community will take place during a consultation period if the committee approves the order.
