Angus Council is preparing for flooding along the county’s coastline.
Sepa has issued a flood warning for the Montrose area that could affect properties at and near to the port around high tide this afternoon.
In particular, properties around Wharf Street, Seagate and California Street could be hit.
High tide is at 4.32pm and flooding impacts are expected between 3pm and 5.30pm.
A combination of high tides and prevailing weather conditions means that wave overtopping and flooding from the sea could affect low lying land, roads and properties along the coast at Montrose.
A council statement said: “Angus Council is working closely with our partners, including the emergency services, with staff monitoring the water levels throughout the day.
“Households and businesses in the area at risk are being contacted directly and rest centre facilities are being readied at Montrose Sports Centre for any residents who require them.
“Sandbags are ready to deploy with the aim of confining any flooding within the road boundary and away from properties. Some temporary road closures may be required.

The Sepa flood warning says: “A combination of high tides and prevailing weather conditions means that flooding from the sea is expected to affect low lying land, roads and properties along the Angus coast at Montrose.
“Flooding in and around low lying parts of Montrose is possible. Flooding impacts are expected around the time of high tide between 3pm and 5.30pm Tuesday.”
Sepa has issued separate less-serious flood alerts for other parts of Courier Country.
Its alert for Dundee and Angus says: “There is a risk of significant coastal flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday due to higher than usual tides and large waves.
“This will increase the risk of flooding to low lying land and roads and could affect exposed coastal properties.
“There could also be wave overtopping of coastal defences. The periods of greatest risk are around the high tide which occurs at Arbroath around 4.30pm on Tuesday and 5am and 5.45pm on Wednesday.”
The Sepa flood alert for Fife says: “This alert is for coastal flooding. Due to a combination of high tides and storm surge there is a risk of flooding from waves and spray overtopping to low lying areas of the Fife coast on Tuesday afternoon.
“The greatest risk is around the time of high water, which is at 4.30pm at Rosyth. The impact of the high tides will be increased in some areas by the action of south westerly winds and waves.”
The updated warnings follow disruption caused by Storm Brendan, which hit the local area last night.
Police in Tayside have also issued a warning. A statement said: “It looks like Brendan is continuing to give us all a bit of a hard time, even though we thought we’d missed the worst of it.
“Sepa have issued a number of coastal flood warnings for the area, with a warning covering the Montrose area and surrounding coastal sections where flooding is expected, and also for the rest of the Angus coast, along with Dundee, where flooding is considered possible.
“These warnings, while in effect at the moment, are most pertinent for when high tide is in effect, which is around 3pm-5pm this afternoon
“Please be aware of potential flooding on low-lying and coastal roads, and DO NOT enter any standing water or large puddles on roads where the depth is uncertain.
“And it’s probably not a good idea for any walks along seaside promenades or pathways today (you’ve probably seen the footage of the waves at the sea wall in Arbroath).”
