A Forfar woman who lost seven stone and quit the thin blue line to become a personal trainer is offering free workouts.
Mum-of-three Nikki Thorton was a special constable with Tayside Police for six years and said she felt “super embarassed” wearing her uniform.
She left to go to college and study social science and psychology and obtained a Higher National Certificate which got her a place at Dundee University.
Nikki decided to go into fitness instead after getting healthy.
She has since become a personal trainer but is currently out of work because of the coronavirus pandemic.
She wants to give something back after being given help through her own personal weight loss journey in the past.
Now she is offering live workouts for free to get parents and kids staying healthy whilst in isolation.
“My story really began about five years ago when I was majorly overweight at 15 stone and only being 5ft, this made me morbidly obese,” she said.
“Years earlier I had been diagnosed with an under active thyroid and polycystic ovaries so I just resigned to the fact that I would be this way.
“However, I’d like to let people know who have these conditions that you don’t have to put up with weight gain as part and parcel of these conditions.
“I’d love to help women out there.”
Nikki’s weight loss journey started when an unknown male shouted at her that she was fat.
She said this made her determined to get healthy and little did she know then that her life was about to change for the better.
“It was a tough struggle at first and I began to eat healthy and I joined the local gym,” she said.
“I was a complete novice and just watched YouTube videos and blindly followed them.
“I trundled along doing this and surprisingly the weight started to fall off.”
She lost five stone in a year before she hired a personal trainer and found a love of weight lifting.
Nikki decided to train to become a personal trainer and she was given a chance by Results Gym in Forfar and her business ‘Fierce Fitness’ has gone from strength to strength.
She said: “I am so proud to be part of the Results Gym crew as they too are giving back to the community just now with the gyms being closed.
“They are hosting daily live workouts every morning to curb isolation blues.
“Plus they are doing daily free kickboxing lessons!
“I myself know what it’s like to not get the gym, therefore I started giving away for free my home workout programme which I normally charge for and I’ve been hosting live workouts for free to get parents and kids alike moving as isolation is tough.”
She said she has lost her job due to coronavirus but still wants to give something back to the community.
