A 49-year-old man has been arrested after police cordoned off a section of Arbroath High Street on Tuesday afternoon.
Multiple police vans swooped on the town centre at around 1.10pm following an alleged disturbance within a flat.
It is understood local shops and neighbours were warned to lock their doors during the incident.
Police have confirmed there were no injuries and the man was arrested and charged.
A local resident said: “My wife and I noticed police outside on the road just before 2pm, shouting at people to get off the street.
“We saw them putting tape up near the Haqs newsagents and at the turn of the road near Boots.
“They were letting people down to the chemist to collect prescriptions, but only from one end of the road.
“We heard a lot of shouting from further down the street but couldn’t make anything out.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers responded to a man causing a disturbance within a flat on High Street, Arbroath around 1.10pm on Tuesday, 28 April 2020.
“The incident was brought to a safe conclusion and nobody was injured.
“The man, aged 49, was arrested and charged. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
It is understood the road was reopened shortly after 3.30pm.
