A Monifieth High School pupil is set for a thrill-seeking summer after landing her dream job at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Rollercoaster fan Isla Duthie, 13, has been appointed to the theme park’s Junior Board of Directors – a group of 60 youngsters who help bosses make decisions about attractions.
Her dad Charlie said: “She’s absolutely ecstatic with the news.
“It all started around three years ago when we caught her on YouTube watching rollercoaster videos all the time.
“Then she started learning about theme parks and has developed this thing about them. She’s absolutely passionate about them.”
Charlie said: “She sent this letter off herself, we knew nothing about it.
“My wife, Nicola, received an email out the blue from the Pleasure Beach asking if she could go down for an interview.
“We went down last week and she got to ride The Big One, that’s her favourite ride.
“They emailed to let us know that she had been accepted onto the board for the season.”
Boardroom holidays
Although she has obtained her dream role, Isla, from Monikie, will have to continue with her studies.
Charlie said: “She has to go down during the school holidays.
“There’s four junior board meetings a year. They carry out all the minutes for it, it’s all very official.
“She’ll be down in August and then in October.”
Junior Board members are tasked with assisting on the development of new merchandise, marketing of the park and customer engagement strategies.
Since 1995, many board members have gone on to hold full and part-time positions at the park.
Charlie said: “She said she would love to design roller coasters as a career. We’ll support her all the way.”
A Blackpool Pleasure Beach spokesperson said: “Isla recently attending a recruitment meeting, and we are pleased that Isla has been appointed as a member of the junior board of directors.
“The role, whilst packed full of fun, is of significant importance to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and we’re sure Isla will make a positive contribution with ideas and suggestions.”
