Two people have died after a late night crash near Marykirk in Angus.
A male aged 31 and a female aged 26 were fatally injured in the one vehicle crash, which occurred on the A937 Montrose to Laurencekirk road close to Marykirk Bridge late on Saturday.
In a statement, Police Scotland confirmed a second male is in hospital with serious injuries.
The road eventually re-opened around 5pm on Sunday to allow an accident investigation to take place.
Police have not confirmed the make of vehicle which the three people were travelling in, and it was a number of hours before it was removed from the scene for examination following the tragedy.
The car is understood to have struck a low wall  close to a sharp bend in the road, which is a busy weekday commuter route for traffic from Montrose heading north to join the A90 at Laurencekirk.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews from Laurencekirk, Montrose and Brechin attended the incident.
Details of the victims are not expected to be released until next of kin have been informed.
