An armed robber in HMP Perth could spend more time behind bars after he admitted having an illegal SIM card in jail.

Harry Tant, 31, pled guilty by letter to having the unauthorised card in prison on December 3 last year.

Sheriff Mark O’Hanlon deferred sentencing until April 14 for him to be brought to court.

In 2017, Tant was jailed for four years and four months after he pulled on a motorcycle helmet and held up two Edinburgh shop workers with a hammer and a knife.

Dog puncher

A Perth man punched his neighbour’s dog twice in the face during a row about late night noise. George Boura lashed out at the staffie-collie cross after being woken by people outside his block at 2am. The dog, called Summer, has never been the same since the assault, its owner told Perth Sheriff Court.

George Boura appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.

Attacked police

A 23-year-old woman who bit and kicked police officers has been allowed to walk free from court.

Chloe Strachan was allowed to dodge a prison term despite kicking one female officer in the head before sinking her teeth into her body.

Strachan was ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work in the community and told the payback order was a direct alternative to custody.

Strachan, of Wolseley Street, Dundee, admitted attacking a PC by kicking her body in the city’s St Columba’s Gardens on March 22 2021.

She also admitted assaulting another officer by kicking her in the head and biting her on the body as she struggled to avoid being arrested.

Sheriff George Way told Dundee Sheriff Court: “I was hoping for something a little more positive from the social work report.

“The writer has quite a lot of concerns.

“She has to understand that she has reached the point where, if she gets into similar trouble again, she can’t really expect to avoid custody.

“She is 23 and needs to sort herself out.

“She needs to deal with her alcohol issues.”

Password thief

A thief who left a trail of blood after ransacking a Perthshire primary school has been ordered to carry out unpaid work. Michael McNeilage, 39, triggered a security alert when he sliced himself smashing his way into St Dominic’s in Crieff to help himself to a laptop computer and a list of passwords on March 19 2021.

McNeilage broke into the school and stole a computer and passwords.

Four-times limit

A banned Kirkcaldy motorist was spotted drunkenly weaving his way along a main road in the town while more than four times the drink drive limit.

Robert Moldovan, 36, of Strathkinnes Road, drove with excess alcohol (94mics/ 22) on March 4.

Police saw him veering towards the pavement and onto grass verges on Oriel Road and Dunvegan Avenue, while disqualified.

Moldovan was eventually stopped and was seen to have “glazed and bloodshot eyes”, while smelling of alcohol.

Solicitor Kerr Sneddon said his client had been drinking beer while decorating his home but drove to carry out previously made plans.

He was banned for three years, fined £400 and must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Tragedy could have been averted

The death of a Fife mother in hospital could have been avoided at various stages in her care, a fatal accident inquiry has determined. Linda Allan, 59, was admitted to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy with a broken leg on October 15 2019. She died on October 23 – six days after an operation – when a stomach ulcer burst, causing bleeding into her bowel and multiple organ failure.

Trial fixed

A Police Scotland worker is to stand trial accused of repeatedly accessing crime logs and passing information to a third party.

Pauline Penman is alleged to have accessed confidential information without consent on multiple occasions between January 2017 and October 2020.

The 51-year-old is said to have accessed the files at Glenrothes police station.

She is also alleged to have passed some of the details to a third party.

Penman, of Randolph Street, Buckhaven, denies the nine charges against her.

She will stand trial in July.
