A global cinema chain that operates in Dundee said it anticipates all of its theatres will be open again by the end of July.

In an announcement to the stock market today, Cineworld, which has a multiplex at Camperdown Leisure Park in Dundee, said its UK cinemas would open on July 10.

It said the date would be subject to “final clarifications and confirmation in relation to various government Covid-19 restrictions.”

However, in a message to customers issued later on Tuesday morning, it only confirmed the July 10 date for its English cinemas, with “dates to follow” for its cinemas in Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Among new measures introduced are an updated booking system to ensure social distancing within and throughout its auditoriums.

The group will also adapted its daily movie schedules to manage queues and avoid the build-up of crowds in our lobbies. Cineworld said it will also enhance its cleanliness and sanitation procedures.

Covid-19 led to many films, including the latest James Bond instalment No Time To Die, to moved their release dates to much later in the year.

Chief executive Mooky Greidinger said: “We are thrilled to be back and encouraged by recent surveys that show that many people have missed going to the movie theatre.

The group’s schedule plan for reopening cinemas in various countries is:

· Unites States: July 10th

· Czech Republic:  June 26th

· Slovakia: June 26th
