A 28-year old man has been arrested after another man was reportedly stabbed in broad daylight outside a shop in Broughty Ferry.
Police raced to the scene in the Barnhill area of the town after the alarm was raised just before 1.30pm on Friday.
A section of street directly outside the Iceland store on Campfield Square was cordoned off for several hours.
Witnesses said an argument had broken out as people were standing in the socially distanced queue to get inside the shop.
A 48-year old man was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment.
He was released later in the day.
Police remained at the scene until around 4.45pm.
Last night a spokesman said a 28 year old man had been arrested but no charges had been made.
One nearby shop worker said: “An argument started when someone was coughing and spluttering but they were not wearing a face mask.
“There was some shouting and fighting.
“It is really quite shocking and a crazy thing to have happened. I have never seen or heard of anything like that happening in this area in all the time I have worked here. It is normally a really nice area.”
The shopping district also houses a Co-Op, Ladbrokes, The Barn pub and other business premises, most of which are closed because of lockdown.
A nearby resident said: “I didn’t see anything until all the police arrived. I don’t know what happened but there was quite a lot of commotion.”
A police spokesman said: “We were called around 1.20pm to a report of a disturbance in the Campfield Square area of Dundee. A 48-year-old man sustained an injury to his chest and was taken by the Scottish Ambulance Service to Ninewells Hospital and released after treatment.
“A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Enquiries are ongoing to find out the full circumstances of what happened.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service and Iceland did not respond to a request for comment.
